Then I searched for XE, using the search and replace facility, and discovered that it appeared to find the complete code XE, braces and text. At first I replaced them individually. As this appeared to be working well I then went for replace all.
Searching for XE only will find that particular text, so your former XE fields are now most likely cross-reference fields instead as I suggested in my previous reply. Really appreciate, thanks D. My code already includes Sub and End Sub statements, so you do not need to add them. If you want to specify a macro name, you can do that and only copy the code in between Sub and End Sub. This site in other languages x.

Bookmark not defined appears where the page number should be and it would indicate that the Heading for that item has been deleted. In deleting the heading, it would appear that the heading style has been applied to the text that was under that heading so that when you do a full update of the table of contents not just the page numbers , the text that now has that heading style assigned to it is now being included in the table of contents.
To fix it up, you will need to go to that page of the document, and reinstate the missing header and change the style that is assigned to the text to something that is appropriate.
